Wine is a very popular drink produced and distributed all over the world. These days wine tasting and drinking has become a favorite hobby and pastime for many of us. There are many countries which are involved in the production of wine.



The wine grapes grow between the 30th and 50th parallel, in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres - even though it can grow in other places as well. In the given article, you will come across some of the largest wine producing countries.



France: France is one of the largest countries in the wine production. It has been a stand out wine producer for many centuries. The most famous wine regions of France includes the Loire Valley. Loire Valley is known for it's rich and fertile soil and moderate climate. Sauvignon Blanc is the wine which is produced in this region of France.



Italy: Chianti is the most famous wine produced in Italy. Infact, the district of Chianti, located between Siena and Florence, is one of the country's premier wine regions. Chianti is a productive wine region and a beautiful place to visit.




Australia: Australian wine is acknowledged for its sweet dessert wines. Shiraz and Pinot Noir are the wines produced in the Eastern Australia. You can find many Pinot Noir vineyards near Sidney and many sparkling wines in the Yarra valley.



South Africa: The Cape is the most famous place in South Africa where you can find majority of wine production. The river regions along the Breede Valley, Olifants and Orange Rivers are the warmest areas and are often the location of bulk wine production and distillation. South Africa is known for producing white wines.



Germany: German wine is primarily produced in the west of Germany along the river Rhine and its tributaries. Germany basically uses the Riesling grape variety to produce wines. The German wines are famous for it's aromatic and fruity flavor. The most famous German wines are Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris.



Portugal: Portugal is famous for its Port, a sweet fortified wine. These Ports are aged for centuries either in casks or in bottles. There is a famous wine regions known as Vila Nova de Gaia which welcomes the visitors for tours and samples.




There are countries such as Chile and Argentine in South America which are known for their vast vineyards. Some of the popular South American wines are Chardonnay, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon. California, Oregon, New York and Washington are also known for wine production.
